Tibet is a region of some 500,000 square miles set at an average altitude of 3000 meters; it is as big as Western Europe. In the rain shadow area of the vast Himalayan mountain range; its average yearly rainfall is regularly exceeded by an average rainy month in Holland. It is a land of endless steppes, where glittering peaks rise out of high altitude dry lands and desert and beautifully Verdant River gorges flourish under cobalt striking blue skies. Here, ancient monasteries in striking colors stand in the stark landscape as reminders of the essential spirituality of humankind and draw all visitors into a profound revaluation of their own lives; and the people retain a wonderful optimism and friendliness in adversity which is nothing short of inspirational.

Many wonderful monasteries including the world famous Potala Palace still stand in their entire mysterious splendor. Above all, the powerful spirit of the Tibetan people in every nook and corner of the country is always on view.
